Introduction
I specialise in portraits, performers headshots, corporate, wedding and civil partnership photography.
Provenance
I was born in 1978 in a small town in Lincolnshire. Life was unremarkable for the next 6 years until one morning my Dad came home and announced we were moving to Dubai. In 1984, Dubai was not the towering metropolis it is today, but a small settlement on the side of a desert. My youth was spent running across salt flats, playing hide and seek amongst the dunes, and unsuccessfully fending off camels from my tomato plants. For my 16th Birthday my dad have me my first SLR and I proceeded to spend the next 2 years photographing anything and everything. Photography in a desert has it's own challenges, sand gets into equipment, humidity obscures lenses first thing in the morning; but the sun light and open space was an excellent learning place.
Professional Experience
At 18 I returned to the UK, to Edinburgh University, where I promptly joined the student newspaper, confusingly called, 'Student'. Suddenly having to shoot on 400 ISO after years of perfect light was a bit of a shock, but the hustle and bustle of city life was electrifying. In the 3 years I shot stars from PJ Harvey in a tiny dark lit club to Garbage in an arena in Glasgow. I was the clubbing photographer for the Big Issue Scotland, I shot politicians across the political spectrum from Jack McConnell, to Malcolm Rifkind to Alex Salmond. I had photos published in the Daily Record, went to Twickenham to shoot rugby, taught students how to use the dark room, and eventually edited the 'Student Newspaper of the Year'. In 1998 I came runner up in the Guardian Young Press Photographer of the Year. In 2000 I became very ill and was diagnosed with ME. In the intervening 6 years I read, looked at photos and imagined a life of health, wealth and photography. Then in 2006 the cause of my illness was discovered, I was treated and I started the long road to recovery. I started working as an assistant Photographer, honing all my skills in the strict environs of corporate and wedding photography. In my spare time I would shoot anything and everything, from actors headshots, to fashion spreads to theatre photo calls. And now, at the ripe old age of 29 I am an established photographer.
I would like to meet
If you need a stills photographer, an actor's headshot, ensemble shots or candid shots on location, please look me up. I am very reliable, competitively priced and extremely good. And if you need someone to chase away camels, I will give that go too.
