Introduction

I am currently working as a freelance director in the UK. The Intimacy of Strangers is my second documentary, building on my previous work in fiction and as a director for BBC Broadcast. I like to make films about subjects I feel passionate about, whatever the length, genre or format. I love films that challenge and entertain, and that ask questions rather than provide answers.

Provenance

Born in Darmstadt, Germany, I originally came to the UK to study film and television at Goldsmiths' College, gaining a BA in Communications and a MA in Television Drama. My first short, Stealing Desire, was Goldsmiths' College entry into the FujiFilm Scholarship Competition and won the Steenbeck Award for Best Editing. The film was screened, amongst others, at Dublin Film Festival and the British Short Film Festival. My MA graduation film, Disgraceful Conduct, won awards for Best European Short Film and Best Independent Short Film at the Algarve International Film Festival; as well as the Diploma of Honours at the Mediterranean Festival of New Filmmakers. The film was screened on Channel 4 and FilmFour, and shown at many international festivals, such as Edinburgh International Film Festival, Cinema Jove, and Tampere International Short Film Festival.

Professional Experience

After my graduation, I went on to direct Dyke Blend for Channel Four. The nine, mini films play on and subvert the Nescafe Gold Blend advertising campaign with humour, passion and style. Broadcast as part of a four-week season of programmes, the press described Dyke Blend as "the undoubted highlight...worth watching just for these". Since then, I directed the half-hour documentary, Makings of a Queen, for Channel Four. I have also worked as one of six in-house directors for BBC Broadcast, directing numerous promotions and commercials for the BBC and advertising companies such as Karmarama and M&C Saatchi's. I am currently developing a number of new drama and documentary projects, including a feature-length, dramatised version of The Intimacy of Strangers. 2005 The Intimacy of Strangers National Film and Television School, Documentary, DV/Digi Beta 20 mins. Made as part of Project Development Lab (Advanced Programme) at the National Film & Television School. Winner of the Award for Best Documentary Short at Big Sky Documentary Film Festival 2006. Premiered at Edinburgh International Film Festival.2000 Makings of a Queen. Ideal World for Channel 4, Documentary, DV 24 mins. Broadcast on Channel 4 in October 2000 and February 2003. 1996 Dyke Blend. CS Productions Ltd for Channel 4, Fiction, S16mm, 9 x 1 min. Broadcast on Channel 4. Professional Aims

The original conception of the idea, and exploring different ways of realising this. Working with others that feel passionate about what they do. Making work that challenges and entertains, and hopefully makes people think and reflect on their own lives. The next project.
