Introduction

A strong interest in cinema from an early age combined with aspirations to write about and write films led me to study the medium at degree level at the University of East Anglia. I followed this with a Masters in Scriptwriting at the same university and have been writing for a number of independent producers and websites since graduating. I have been a reviews and features writer for Close-up Film for nearly two years and have also written for 6 Degrees Film. In 2005 I completed two short films, one purely as writer (Us, directed by Carl Tibbetts) and another as co-writer, co-director and co-producer (The Demon Within, with Dan Birt). In addition I am a regular contributor to online comic Night Warrior and am currently working on two feature scripts for Modern Life (producers of UK martial arts feature Left for Dead).

Career Apex

The short film The Demon Within as the end result far exceeded my expectations, not to mention our limited budget and time constraints. More important than the finished film was the experience itself as I was involved in every aspect of production from start to finish and while exhausting it was also rewarding in terms of how much I learnt.

Professional Aims

I'm particularly interested in the narrative structure of films, especially when there is any attempt to subvert more established structures or to experiment with genres. I'm also intrigued by the flexibility of computer game narratives and with games becoming more and more cinematic I think the possibilities as the next form of story telling are really exciting.
